Position Description:
Summary:
The Administrative Fellowship at Cooper Green Mercy Health Services is a comprehensive, one-year program designed to provide graduates with a foundational understanding of healthcare operations and leadership within an outpatient environment that includes primary care, multi-specialty care, urgent care, lab, imaging, and pharmacy. The program emphasizes rotational learning, project involvement, and professional development opportunities that align with the fellow’s interests and the organization’s strategic priorities.
Program Overview:
The fellowship offers exposure to a wide array of departments through rotational assignments and project work, designed to prepare the fellow for a leadership role in healthcare. Fellows will interact with key leaders across the organization, gaining insight into the daily operations, strategic initiatives, and decision-making processes that drive the organization’s mission to deliver high-quality care to the community.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Rotations and Departmental Exposure:
• The fellow will rotate with the leaders of various departments; these areas may include operations, enrollment, finance, strategic planning, patient services, quality improvement, and clinical care.
• Rotations will provide an in-depth understanding of each department’s contribution to the overall organization, as well as an opportunity to observe the day-to-day management of healthcare services.
• Fellows will participate in one-on-one meetings with key leaders, shadow department heads, and engage with staff across different levels of the organization.
2. Project Involvement:
• Projects assigned during the fellowship will align with Cooper Green Mercy Health's strategic priorities and will be developed in collaboration with executive leadership.
• Fellows will have the opportunity to work on cross-functional teams to execute initiatives related to process improvement, patient experience, establish relationships with external partners, grant coordination duties, contract system tracking, research on specific strategic priorities, develop metrics and dashboards, coordinate pilot projects, analyze trends, etc.
• Examples of past fellow projects include:
 Developing metrics for measuring patient satisfaction and provider performance.
 Assisting in the creation and implementation of a quality improvement plan for outpatient services.
 Developing standard operating procedures for patient encounter specialists within various departments.
3. Professional Development:
• The fellow will have access to a variety of professional development opportunities, including:
 Mentorship from the program preceptor and ongoing guidance from senior leaders.
 Participation in executive leadership meetings
 Opportunities to attend and contribute to board meetings and strategic planning sessions.
 Funding to attend external healthcare conferences such as the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Congress, fostering networking and continuing education in the healthcare field.
4. Mentorship and Evaluation:
• The fellow will receive mentorship from the assigned program preceptor and key leaders throughout the organization, ensuring continuous personal and professional development.
• Progress will be reviewed periodically through formal and informal feedback sessions to ensure that the fellow is growing and gaining exposure to their areas of interest.
5. Leadership Exposure and Networking:
• The fellow will have opportunities to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, clinical and administrative leaders, and community partners.
• Exposure to high-level organizational initiatives will allow the fellow to gain a broad understanding of how ambulatory systems operate and evolve in response to community needs.

• Minimum Requirements:
o Have a master's degree (M.B.A., M.H.A., M.H.S.A., MPH, or related field) or be on schedule to complete the degree before the fellowship start date in June (exception for programs that require a residency)
o Candidates with a master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) are preferred; applications from non-CAHME programs are accepted for review
o Have healthcare industry experience such as an internship, externship, fellowship, or applicable employment

• How long is the fellowship?
o The fellowship is one year and traditionally begins in the month of June.

• Are administrative fellows guaranteed a position once they complete the program?
o Every effort will be made to match a fellow with a needed position within the organization, either existing or newly created. However, there are no guarantees of a position post fellowship. Our goal is to provide each fellow with an invaluable year-long experience that's foundational to their career.

• My master's program requires an administrative fellowship/residency. Does Cooper Green Mercy Health accommodate these types of students?
o Yes, as long as the didactic portion of the program is complete prior to beginning the fellowship.

• How many fellowship positions are offered?
o One fellowship position is offered.
