The Senior Manager - Income Tax will oversee the income tax compliance function and maintain overall responsibility for the operational effectiveness and continual improvement of the U.S. federal, State and international return preparation process and governmental tax audit defense. In addition to a prominent role on income tax compliance matters, this individual will proactively collaborate with the Director of Income Tax Accounting and Director of Tax Research and Planning relative to the quarterly and year-end tax provision, Sarbanes-Oxley testing and ongoing tax planning opportunities. This individual will have overall responsibility for managing, mentoring and developing a team of tax compliance professionals including, but not limited to, tax managers and tax analysts, and will report directly to the Director of Tax. Responsible for the day-to-day income tax compliance process including the accurate and timely filing of the consolidated federal return and quarterly estimates for 40-plus affiliates, returns in all 50 states, and multiple jurisdictions. Assuring the Company is compliant with all federal and state income tax reporting rules and regulations. Develop and lead the implementation of systems and processes to improve the income tax compliance process. Document and maintain US tax policies and procedures for managing and executing upon an efficient and effective income tax function across the department and business segments. Lead the US tax examination and controversy process, including project management, assessment of proposed adjustments, and negotiation/settlement. Support the ongoing assessment of the Company’s tax and legal structure to identify new nexus and new tax filing requirements, and any tax opportunities by means of restructuring, dissolving or merging existing entities. Manage departmental workload independently by monitoring and meeting all deadlines, while frequently apprising other team members and senior management of project status and problems encountered. Remaining current on latest tax regulations through training, independent research, reviewing professional publications and establishing professional networks. Assist in the identification and utilization of various tax benefits in support of the tax planning function.
Support tax forecasting and planning efforts by identifying and responding to business and tax law changes, to the extent they impact tax compliance.
Participate in the quarterly and annual tax provision process and Sarbanes-Oxley testing.
Advise senior management of income tax consequences of business decisions and provide recommendations with regards to operational tax issues focusing on what is best for the company overall.
Consult with Director of Tax Research and Planning on tax direction for business changes and issues, incorporate research direction into all compliance activities, and review deliverables with Director of Tax Research and Planning.
Identify and lead special projects within and outside of income tax compliance function.
Manage outsourcing, co-sourcing, and consulting projects and maintain vendor relations.
Assist with Corporate activity and provide related tax due diligence and assessments, such as M&A.
Mentor and develop tax managers, senior analysts and analysts.
Education equivalent to Bachelor degree in Accounting, or other related field, or the equivalent in related work experience demonstrating knowledge of domestic and international tax policies and procedures.
CPA Designation a plus.
Seven or more years of International and Domestic tax experience required, including three or more years of tax management experience.
Extensive knowledge of U.S. federal and state income tax compliance rules and regulations required.
Familiarity with foreign tax rules and regulations and/or experience with foreign tax research including treaty analysis is preferred.
Experience with tax controversy management and audit defense.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of ASC 740 (including provisioning for tax contingencies (formerly FIN 48) and ability to support the tax accounting process.
Proven track record managing competing projects/deadlines and outstanding organizational skills.
Demonstrated leadership ability with hands-on experience managing and developing tax professionals.
Ability to identify operational areas for improvement, including use of technology, and follow through on the implementation of new processes.
Ability to interface at high levels and work collaboratively with cross-functional and cross-border teams.
Familiarity with the OneSource suite of tools, including OneSource Income Tax Required and Provision a plus.
Experience working in a SharePoint environment a plus.
