Responsible for supervising the day-to-day startup, shutdown and operation of the water treatment plant and auxiliary systems. Ensures safe, reliable drinking water at all times by developing and maintaining systematic processes and programs, as well as a well-trained and competent operations work force. Ensures a high quality product by monitoring and adjusting operating parameters, proactively communicating with external customers for alignment of activities, and coordinating with water system team members for equipment upgrades and repair work.
Essential Job Tasks: Supervises, plans, and schedules daily operation of the water treatment plant and remote facilities.Communicates and coordinates frequently with Operations team to maintain consistency and awareness across all shifts.Develops, reviews, updates, and trains team on standard operation procedures. Develops and/or contributes to written plans for non-routine work to ensure safety of plant personnel, maintenance of plant operation, and regulatory compliance throughout.Performs routine plant inspections and coordinates closely with Maintenance team lead to ensure reliable process equipment.Participates in and contributes to plant improvement projects.Follows change management protocols and documents operational changes appropriately.Utilizes specialized hardware and software products to support plant operations and maintenance.Monitors operating parameters for regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and safety.Performs root-cause analysis when abnormal conditions or results are encountered to ascertain contributing factors and recommend and implement operational solutions.Recommends to management, implements as directed, and manages operational systems and programs for optimized water treatment.Interacts with and supports Laboratory team members with regulatory compliance and accurate reporting.Prepares and/or reviews daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports for quality control and opportunities for improvement.Performs supervisory and administrative duties such as performance appraisals, time sheet review/approval, employee development, hiring activities, discipline/corrective actions, etc. for assigned personnel.Provides and tracks on-the-job training and other continuing education for Water Treatment Operators.Works closely with vendors that support plant operations, including but not limited to chemical and material suppliers.Communicates regularly with external customers to ensure excellent customer service and coordinated activities.
High School Diploma/GED + 5 years experience in a related field, such as water treatment, wastewater treatment or chemical manufacturing.Must possess leadership, communication, technical and administrative skills.Must be able to enter confined spaces, work at elevations above and below grade, accommodate overtime and on-call status."A" Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator license and "A" Water Distribution Operator SC LLR license required within 4 years of employment.Statistical process control and data analysis skills preferred.
Compensation Information: $80,890 - $101,110 (min. - mid.)
