  • Provides leadership and advanced engineering support to technicians, technical supervisors and junior engineers in the installation, checkout, and maintenance of NERC compliant protective relays and associated control circuitry to ensure proper protection of generators, transformers, transmission lines, and other power system equipment. The incumbent must possess advanced analytical and communication skills.


  • Essential Job Tasks:

  • Provides leadership and advanced engineering support for the installation, maintenance and testing of Transmission level NERC compliant protective relays and associated control devices (such as RTU's) and performs any necessary operational checks and required NERC documentation.  Instructs team members in how to use the required tools, test equipment and personal protective equipment. Out of town travel is required.

  • May serve as a team leader within the department with limited oversight from the Mgr. of System Protection and Control. Keeps the Mgr. of System Protection and Control informed of all personnel matters with team members. Informs supervision of any technical or safety issues that may jeopardize employees, customers or the Bulk Electric System.
  • Instructs team members in how to use computers and the associated software to view, analyze and program protective relays, SCADA RTU's, ethernet switches, fault recorders and other substation equipment.
  • Maintains accurate engineering drawings and uses knowledge and experience to solve advanced problems in protection and control schemes.Completes the design of relay protection and control schemes and instructs team member in design standards.
  • Must lead and train less experienced engineers and technicians in the above tasks.
  • Provides leadership and advanced engineering support for the restoration of service to customers during emergencies due to adverse weather or equipment malfunction.
  • Responds to issues with protection and control equipment with other staff and troubleshoot affected equipment. Rotational on-call status for 24/7 response during call is required.
  • Must lead less experienced engineers and technicians in the above tasks.
  • Leads the scheduling for both Projects and Maintenance activities. Must work with and lead the coordination of these activities with ECC, Project Management, System Substation Maintenance and Metering and Power Plant personnel among other groups.
  • Adheres to NERC CIP and O&P (company and SPC) policies and provides accurate compliance documentation for all work. Provides leadership in suggesting ways to improve compliance documentation and participation from field personnel.


  • This position may be eligible for hybrid (remote and in person arrangement).

    Sr. Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university +8 years experience required.
  • PE license required.


  • Compensation Information:
    $100,550 - $125,680 (min.-mid.)

    Engineer III
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university +5 years experience required.
  • FE license required.


  • Compensation Information:
    $90,190 - $112,730 (min.-mid.)

    Engineer II
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university +2 years experience required.
  • FE license preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
    $80,890 - $101,110 (min.-mid.)

    Engineer I
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university required.
  • FE license preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
    $72,550 - $90,680 (min.-mid.)
