Responsible for assisting in the inspection, maintenance, construction and testing of transmission and fiber optic lines and substations on electrical systems up to 230,000 volts.
Essential Job Tasks: Uses appropriate licenses, training certifications and basic skills to safely perform overhead and underground transmission line inspection (walk, climb, and helicopter) under direct supervision.Follows Santee Cooper transmission inspection guidelines to assess transmission line, fiber optic cable, right-of-way and substation integrity and determine maintenance requirements.Possesses appropriate skills, licenses and training certifications to climb wood and non-wood structures and operate specialized equipment to reach work heights in excess of 100 ft. during maintenance activities.Provides stand-by, emergency response while OFF DUTY for the restoration of the transmission lines and substations during power outages under direct supervision.Develops, demonstrates, and applies knowledge of the safety manual in all work performed.Participates in all safety meetings.Follows safe work methods and procedures to ensure safe job operations. Conducts job site safety briefings.Attends and participates in all Santee Cooper apprenticeship and mandatory training requirements each year as determined by the task manual, management and OSHA.Performs essential duties to support unit operations to include general housekeeping, maintenance of fleet and warehouse stock, upkeep and maintenance of fleets, general care of tools and other duties as assigned.

Reporting Requirements: Report to their designated crew quarters within 30 minutes when on call.
Line Technician C High School Diploma or GED with courses in electricity or knowledge of electricity required.CDL Class A with fifth wheel endorsement and pole climbing proficiency required within six months after employment.Required to work at various heights.Line Technicians must maintain pole top rescue re-certification annually based on the APPA Safety Manual and OSHA Standard for General Industry, therefore, maximum body weight cannot exceed the equipment rating minus the weight of associated work tools and equipment.

Line Technician B High School Diploma or GED + 2 years experience.Work Keys must be completed as a Line Technician C.CDL-Class A with fifth wheel endorsement and pole climbing proficiency required within six months after employment.Required to work at various heights.Line Technicians must maintain pole top rescue re-certification annually based on the APPA Safety Manual and OSHA Standard for General Industry, therefore, maximum body weight cannot exceed the equipment rating minus the weight of associated work tools and equipment.
