The primary responsibility of an Engineering Intern in Mechanical Maintenance is to assist various departments within a large, coal-fired generating station. Assignments will be made based on need within the departments.  

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assists in inspections of various station equipment and documents condition.

  • Assists in condition monitoring of equipment using vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasonics, and thermal imaging.

  • Assists in planning and administration of maintenance projects.

  • Updates process and equipment drawings.

  • Files drawings and other reports.


  • The qualified candidate must:

  • have the ability to follow instructions

  • capable of learning how to operate various test equipment

  • filing

  • required to enter confined spaces

  • work at elevations above and below grade


  • In addition the candidate must:
  • Have completed their first year at a 4-year college or 2-year college (transfer program).

  • Be pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering at an EAC/ABET accredited school.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Successfully undergo pre-employment physical and drug screen.

    This position is for a Summer Internship at our Winyah Generating Station located at 661 Steam Plant Drive, Georgetown, South Carolina.  This internship begins May 20, 2024.  Candidate will work 40 hours per week for a period of 10-12 weeks.

    Salary Range
    Rising Sophomore  $23.00 per hour
    Rising Junior  $24.00 per hour
    Rising Senior  $25.00 per hour
