  • The ability to construct a compelling story – both in short form and long form – that enhances the Santee Cooper brand inside and outside of the company. Simplify and communicate complex processes and issues, working with other units and team members on a regular basis. Support, coordinate and provide research, content and project strategy, presentation development, and editing and writing services used in internal and external communication for a number of audiences and stakeholder groups. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, media relations and media pitching experience, social media experience, experience with crisis communication, and knowledge of brand management.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Works proactively with internal customers in other departments to produce and execute detailed, comprehensive communication plans to support their goals and Santee Cooper’s brand.
  • Shares information and coordinates communications-related projects, news and information.
  • Coordinates intradepartmental and extradepartmental resources to provide communication products and services; executes projects to include researching and writing for all internal and external publications and media communication as needed.
  • Serves as line editor and writer for one or more internal and/or external publications, including social media.
  • Coordinates with graphic designers and photographer for images to support and enhance stories used in publications.
  • Mentors junior team members, leads and manages project teams, and displays positive attitude and excellent customer service mentality to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates experience and capability executing the duties of Publications Specialist I, as listed below.
    a. Provides writing services for Santee Cooper’s internal and external publications, including, but not
    limited to, quarterly magazine, employee newsletter, brochures, online communication and various
    other materials
    b. Conducts interviews with employees, management and individuals in order to provide writing services
    c. Compiles, proofreads and writes Santee Cooper and electric utility industry news for placement on
    Santee Cooper’s intranet and external website
    d. Uses coordination skills to assist with special projects, including events, and supports general public relations department functions.
    e. Actively participates in planning process for company’s communication.
  • Develops and implements captivating public relations programs in support of company brand, goals and objectives.
  • Promotes Santee Cooper through storytelling, media pitches, media interviews, press releases, website review.
  • Develops and nurtures lasting, meaningful relationships with media.
  • Acts as an integral, active member of the emergency communication team and as liaison between Santee Cooper, media, customers and other stakeholders during hurricanes and other emergencies.
  • Develops presentations and is comfortable speaking in public.

  • Public Relations Specialist II
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, English or any other equivalent advanced degree + 2 years demonstrated writing and/or editing experience; demonstrated project management abilities preferred.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of the English language, including grammar and punctuation.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the information found in the Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Must be a problem-solver comfortable with taking the lead and executing projects by creating and/or supporting marketing and communication plans.
  • Manages and coordinates internal and external written communication.


  • Compensation Information:
    $60,820 - $76,020 (min.-mid.)


    Public Relations Specialist I
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, English or any other equivalent advanced degree.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of the English language, including grammar and punctuation.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the information found in the Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Must be a problem-solver comfortable with taking the lead and executing projects by creating and/or supporting marketing and communication plans.
  • Manages and coordinates internal and external written communication.


  • Compensation Information:
    $48,920 - $61,140 (min.-mid.)
