Assists with controlling and directing the real-time operation of generating resources and transmission facilities to ensure the stable, reliable, and economic operation of the Santee Cooper bulk electric system and the interconnected Bulk Electric System.
Essential Job Tasks:
Assists with operating the Santee Cooper bulk electric system in accordance with NERC Reliability Standards and assists with implementing real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the interconnected Bulk Electric System and to adhere to the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. Assists with directing System Personnel including Unit Operators, Line Technicians, and all other Santee Cooper personnel involved in responding to real-time operating activities of the Santee Cooper bulk electric system. Assists with forecasting near-term system resource requirements, including reserve requirements, non-firm purchase requirements and resources available for marketing activities. Assists with monitoring and controlling generating resources to maintain system economics, balance generation and load requirements, maintain operating reserves, maintain compliance with NERC operating requirements, and manage inadvertent interchange. Assists with responding to capacity emergencies and implements provisions of the VACAR resource reserve sharing agreement. Assists with monitoring and controlling Santee Cooper hydroelectric facilities to meet various requirements associated with operation of the Santee Cooper lake system including monitoring and controlling discharges, monitoring lake levels, and monitoring and responding to various alarm conditions such as USGS salinity alarms. Assists with monitoring the condition of Santee Cooper's dams and dikes, and provides the initial response to emergencies involving the dam and dike systems. Assists with monitoring and controlling the reservations and sales of Santee Cooper transmission for wholesale marketing activities. Assists with implementing, monitoring, and coordinating normal and emergency interchange schedules with power marketers and other control areas. Assists with monitoring system security and assists with taking all necessary actions to maintain system operation within system security limits. Assists with coordinating electric system operations with neighboring control areas. Assists with maintaining various logs, listings, and systems reports, and preparing various reports associated with system events and anticipated near-term system conditions. Assists with control area accounting activities.
High school diploma/GED and eight years of electric utility related experience is required. Associate's degree in Engineering with a minimum of six years electric utility related experience is preferred.
