Responsible for implementing assigned telecommunications projects to meet the requirements of Santee Cooper Generation, Transmission, Distribution and administrative/business functions through cost-effective and reliable telecommunications services. Serves to bridge Information Technology (IT) capabilities with critical Transmission Power Delivery Operations Technology (OT) requirements within the Technology Services organizational structure. Provide for the integration of telecommunications facilities vital to electric utility control and operation functions through infrastructure designed and constructed for high availability and high reliability. Implement technologies required to deliver communications services across the Santee Cooper system, including SCADA, protective relaying, TDM, Internet, VoIP, MPLS, T-1, GigE, and Metro Ethernet.
Essential Job Tasks:
Provides engineering to support the development and implementation of recommended plans addressing Santee Cooper’s bulk telecommunications system requirements to reliably meet electric system and business requirements. Includes design and construction functions for radio, microwave and fiber optic communications facilities supporting Santee Cooper operations and business functions.
Assists with and/or performs design and specification functions for the timely integration of bulk communications facilities, either as stand-alone projects or in conjunction with other Santee Cooper expansion plans. Assists with and/or prepares license applications, permits, and associated correspondence required to seek and maintain regulatory approval of radio infrastructure and communications towers. Contributes to preparing engineering man-hour and material estimates for communications projects. Provides recommendations for cost-effective use of contract services to complete assigned projects. Conducts evaluations of new technologies, equipment and procedures to meet Santee Cooper’s bulk communications requirements.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.
