For the Microbial team at QIAGEN Aarhus we are seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. The team develops solutions with a strong focus on analyzing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) from microbial samples. Some of the recent projects have been gene prediction using HMM’s, drug resistance analysis and pangenome binning. In addition the Microbial team is responsible for developing and maintaining the Read Mapper and De Novo Assembler used in QIAGEN bioinformatics key products.

As a Bioinformatics Scientist you will collaborate with your team members in developing software within the microbial domain following our processes and agile approach - and thus provide our customers with versatile, scalable and user-friendly solutions for analyzing their data. The solutions are used worldwide by researchers within different industries and academic segments.

Responsibilities include:
- Write, maintain and document quality software for commercial bioinformatics solutions.
- Combine domain knowledge with mathematical/statistical insight into state-of-the-art analysis software within the Microbial domain.
- Perform validation of bioinformatics algorithms.
- Keep up-to-date with latest research in the microbial bioinformatics domain and actively integrate new knowledge into our products.



- Broad experience in the Bioinformatics domain and overview of the genomics field.
- PhD or MSc in Life Sciences, Computer Science, or related fields with demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics, computational biology or related discipline.
- Strong Mathematical/Statistical background and knowledge in algorithm development.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with software development in professional context.
- Proficiency in Java or C++ – and object-oriented programming in general.
- Experience with Metagenomics and Gene Network Analysis is a plus.
- Excellent in English – both written and oral.
