The Pulmonary and Medical Critical Care service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our expanding team of advanced practice providers (APPs).
Our role as medical critical care APPs is unique, diverse, challenging, and always evolving. We are the first MICU in Penn Medicine to use an APP provider model, and are planning to expand our capacity to include critically ill patients in the Emergency Department and a new Oncology MICU currently under construction. We deliver care to critically ill patients in one of the highest acuity medical ICUs in the nation. Join us in caring for a diverse patient population including Oncology, Hepatology, Pulmonary, transplant, and general medicine patients.
Additionally, MICU APPs also manage a unique procedure consult service that provides bedside procedures to patients in all areas of the hospital. On the Procedure Consult Service, you will have the opportunity to lead procedural teaching in addition to autonomous practice. The APPs also operate a medical floor based Resuscitation and Critical Care Overflow service that provides a consult service to patients outside of the ICU who have evolving critical illness.
To be successful, we need uniquely qualified leaders in Advanced Practice with the skill, experience, expertise and passion to fill these new and exciting roles in the expanded medical Critical Care Program. These ACNPs or PAs will be working with board certified intensivist and intra-disciplinary ICU teams providing front line management of critically ill patients. The Advanced Practice providers in the Medical Intensive Care Unit will function autonomously and in collaboration with intensivists, nurses, Pharm-D’s and other health care professionals to diagnose, treat, and manage complex critical illness. These APPs will also perform procedures as outlined in the privileging agreements.
The AP model of care is coverage 24/7/365. There is interest in those seeking night shift and weekend work hours as well as day/night rotation. The shift structure is 6-7 shifts over two weeks, 12 hour shifts.
