General Summary Statement: A Nurse Practitioner who exhibits critical thinking skills and has a strong knowledge base in Cardiology. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team, this includes but is not limited to: physicians, nurses, pharmacy and case management.
The purpose of this job is to deliver high quality efficient care to our Cardiology population, who have undergone invasive procedures, this includes, but is not limited to patients who have had cardiac catheterization, stent procedures, and those patients who are having an acute myocardial infarction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The job duties of this position include:
-Managing the care of all patients who have had a cardiac intervention, including stent procedure or angioplasty. Managing the care of these patients includes a thorough physical exam, monitoring labs and diagnostic studies, and communicating with our physicians about each patient. Our team manages these patients until they are discharged from the hospital. A detailed discharge plan is created for all patients. The discharge plan includes specific instructions about all medications, and follow up care including cardiac rehab, and any lab studies. We judiciously make sure all core measures and metrics are met for this patient population.
- Management of “Code PCI” – this includes management of patients having an acute myocardial infarction as an inpatient, or in the ED. Our team manages the care of the patient along with the ER physician, while expediting their transport to the catheterization lab. After the intervention, we manage this patient until their discharge.
-Pre-Admission Testing- In this environment, the patient will meet with the nurse practitioner, and the history and physical will be updated. Education about their procedure is given and review of labs and diagnostics is done. The importance of the nurse practitioner in this role is to identify patients who are at high risk for cardiac cath.
-Stress Lab- inpatient and outpatient stress testing for both Cardiology groups from 7-12noon.
-Respond to patient emergencies in the Cath lab and or PCU working in conjunction with other rapid responders and Code Team as necessary.
-Practice and document in a manner that supports our scope of practice and certifying body the ANCC.
Minimum 3 years clinical nursing practice in Cardiology or Critical Care. Minimum 2 years advanced practice.
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania
Licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of PA
Current CRNP prescriptive authority in the state of PA
Current basic life support (BLS)
Current Advances Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
