Position Description:
As a member of the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health in the Division of Family Medicine, the primary purpose of this position is to function as a full-scope Midwife providing independent and/or collaborative management of care with the Family Medicine OB team in accordance with the Department’s mission. This care will extend to obstetrical patients and their newborns during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods in the hospital setting as well as uncomplicated gynecological and obstetric patients in the outpatient setting. This includes managing direct office-based care as well as non-office-based inter-visit care such as phone-based care or virtual visits. The CNM works collaboratively with his/her collaborating physician(s) in the care of this patient panel. The CNM’s care is also dictated where relevant by the Family Medicine / Obstetrics Collaborative Agreement. Specific out-patient responsibilities include the provision of patient care at Penn Family Care and/or contracted Federally-Qualified Health Centers within the Philadelphia region. The scope of practice within those sessions is defined by the training of the CNM and his/her collaborating physicians, as well as the clinical needs at each site.

The CNM will also participate in teaching medical and midwifery students and junior residents the management of normal labor and delivery, and provide feedback regarding their performance. This position is expected to participate in the quality improvement structure of the FM department as well as that of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This may take the form of active involvement in FMOB team meetings, chart review processes, or hospital-based committees. The CNM will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Department’s OB service with a focus on the tracking of obstetrical patients and quality metrics as deemed necessary by the Medical Director.

The candidate will project a positive image of UPHS through excellent communication, teamwork, teaching, and patient care skills, to support patients/families, facility personnel, and UPHS processes to ensure coordinated, efficient, and safe/quality care while providing an excellent experience.

All midwives function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The CNM hired by the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their collaborating physicians who have initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement. All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed under the direction of the collaborating physician/division designee and within the Human Resource guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:
aster's Degree Nursing And 2+ years of experience,

Committee and approved by the Medical

PA State RN & CNM licensure

PA State Prescriptive Authority

National Board Certification AMCB

BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American
Heart Association for providers in the ambulatory setting

ACLS/NRP For providers in acute care settings
