Position Description:
Our Medical ICU is a dynamic, collaborative unit that specializes in treating patients flown in from all over the world for our definitive treatments. As a top 10 U.S. News & World Report Hospital, ANCC Magnet organization, and an AACN Silver Beacon Unit, our mission is to provide the highest quality of care to the most highly acute, complex patient population on the East Coast. As an integral part of our interdisciplinary team, you will be collaborating with premier pulmonary and critical care specialists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, nutrition support specialists, social services and our patients and families. Our patient population consists of pre and post liver and lung transplant, hematological and solid cancers, BMT, sepsis, and Targeted Temperature Management(TTM), as well as all medical ailments requiring world-class critical care interventions. Our cutting edge programs – TTM, proning for severe ARDS, early goal directed protocols for sepsis, and the initiation of ECMO are just some of the exciting medical practices our nurses experience. This is a healthy and active work environment with a robust Nursing Shared Governance model and a unit council that emphasizes multidisciplinary teamwork and collaborative decision making.

The department is currently looking to hire a Clinical Nurse Specialist or a Clinical Practice Lead.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role is a clinical leadership position. CNSs serve as expert clinicians within a specific patient population and partner with Nurse Managers to assume accountability for the nurse and patient outcomes on their nursing unit. Leveraging advanced education and training, CNSs are accountable for leading nursing practice by supporting nurses to care for patients at the bedside, driving practice changes at the unit, service line, and systems levesl, and ensuring the use of best practices and evidence-based care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. An important focus of the CNS role is to understand organizational goals and design, implement, and evaluate practice change initiatives that advance these goals. A strong CNS must be able to: (a) communicate effectively toward negotiating multiple perspectives within the organization and driving change; (b) demonstrate clinical judgment and establish clinical credibility with nursing and interprofessional colleagues within his/her specialty area; (c) exhibit self-direction in maintaining professional knowledge and competence within his/her specialty area; (d) apply critical thinking and analytic skills to design and implement change initiatives; (e) build rapport with and provide mentorship to clinical nurses; and (f) partner effectively with nurse manager colleagues to advance professional nursing practice.

Minimum Requirements:
Clinical Nurse Specialist Requirements:

• Must have Master's Degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from an accredited school of nursing, at time of hire.
• Must have Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing, at time of hire.
• Must possess active Pennsylvania RN License, at time of hire.
• Must possess active BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association at time of hire.
• 5 years of experience in clinical practice with the patient population cared for in the unit/ area required.
• Advanced practice certification in specialty required.

Clinical Practice Lead Requirements:

• Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred
• Must have Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing, at time of hire.
• Must possess active Pennsylvania RN License, at time of hire.
• Must possess active BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association at time of hire.
• 5 years of experience in clinical practice with the patient population cared for in the unit/ area required.
• Certification in specialty preferred
