The Trauma & Emergency Surgery Service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) & Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their team of board-certified general surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers. The trauma and emergency surgery team at theHospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP)/Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP) is part of the Department of Surgery and provides care to patients undergoing surgery for disorders including but not exclusive to small bowel obstruction, diverticulitis, hernia repair, fistulas and chest wall reconstruction.
This position is a Part Time, 24 hours per week role that required On-site, 5 hrs per day Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday with flexibility for balance of hours to be worked 1 or 2 days on the Monday or Friday with a Work From Home option.
Preferably a successful candidate will have 2-3 years experience as the complexity of care for our patient population in a multidisciplinary setting which warrants some previous knowledge. However, we could possibly consider a new to practice APP if their previous nursing experience demonstrated knowledge of emergent care processes for trauma, critical care or acute care services.
As an NP/PA (APP) on this service you will be part of a high functioning inter-professional team who is responsible for the management of complex trauma and emergency surgical patients. Responsibilities for the APP who joins our team will include outpatient management, clinical and complex decision making, procedures according to credentialing, independent outpatient/telehealth clinics for post-operative and pre- operative patients, and complex wound and ostomy management. This role also includes transitions in care, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. In addition, the provider will participate in research as applicable, ensure regulatory compliance, document care according to standards, and prescribe in accordance with their collaborative agreement and State regulations.
Licensed to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing Regulations
Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine Regulations.
Prior to employment, the CRNP/PA must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
Certification as a CRNP or PA-C required at time of employment.

National Board Certification
BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association (For providers in the ambulatory setting)
