Position Description:
The CNS or CPL for our Adult acute in-patient psychiatric services for Mercy Philadelphia Campus are provided on an 18- bed locked unit located on the second floor of the hospital (2SE) which accepts involuntary and voluntary patients.

The (2SE) unit is comprised of one quadruple-occupancy room and 7 double-occupancy rooms. The (2SE) adult inpatient psychiatric service is a specialized program for those patients requiring a therapeutic experience in a safe and secure environment on a short-term basis. The program offers the patient a variety of services including group therapy, individual therapy and activities therapy and mediation management in a therapeutic milieu through the use of staff as change agents on the patient’s recovery journey. With the assistance of a dedicated social service team, families are involved in on-going treatment during hospitalization and post hospitalization treatment planning.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role is a clinical leadership position. CNSs serve as expert clinicians within a specific patient population and partner with Nurse Managers to assume accountability for the nurse and patient outcomes on their nursing unit. Leveraging advanced education and training, CNSs are accountable for leading nursing practice by supporting nurses to care for patients at the bedside, driving practice changes at the unit, service line, and systems levels, and ensuring the use of best practices and evidence-based care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. An important focus of the CNS role is to understand organizational goals and to design, implement, and evaluate practice change initiatives that advance these goals.

A strong CNS must be able to: (a) communicate effectively toward negotiating multiple perspectives within the organization and driving change; (b) demonstrate clinical judgment and establish clinical credibility with nursing and interprofessional colleagues within his/her specialty area; (c) exhibit self-direction in maintaining professional knowledge and competence within his/her specialty area; (d) apply critical thinking and analytic skills to design and implement change initiatives; (e) build rapport with and provide mentorship to clinical nurses; and (f) partner effectively with nurse manager colleagues to advance professional nursing practice.

Minimum Requirements:
CNS with Masters degree in Nursing along with 5 plus years Experience in clinical practice with the patient population cared for in the unit/ area.
Must have PA RN license.

Additional Information:
CPL, with their BSN and 5 plus years of experience in clinical practice with the patient population cared for in the unit/ area will also be considered.
