Position Description:
Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in the Medical Neurology Oncology (MNO) Department in Plainsboro, NJ. This is a full-time night shift opportunity. The ideal candidate will be available 36 hours per week to work 7PM-7AM.

The MNO (Medical, Neurology, Oncology) unit is a 36 bed unit with 4 long term epilepsy (EEG) beds located on the 4th floor (East Side) of the Atkinson Pavilion. The MNO unit has multiple sub-specialties (neurology, oncology, and psychiatry). It has a specialized focus on stroke, seizures, epilepsy, and other neurological conditions; as well as oncology which includes the administration of chemotherapy; and behavioral patients who are being admitted for medical conditions including but not limited to: bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression, PTSD, eating disorders and alcohol and opioid withdrawal. Some of these patients are involuntarily committed hence requiring a one-to-one observation. The unit also provides care to all other medical and surgical inpatients with tracheostomy, chest tubes, pleurx catheter, wound vac, and central lines such as chest ports. The unit has 4 long-term epilepsy (EEG) beds and these patients are usually admitted for medication changes or adjustments. The unit also provides telemetry monitoring on all stroke/TIA patients. Because of the multiple sub-specialties, nurses are required to meet mandatory competencies such as ACLS, stroke scale certification, CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), and chemotherapy competency.

As a Registered Nurse in the MNO Unit you will be responsible for establishing a therapeutic relationship and an individualized plan of care for patients admitted into the MNO unit.

We care for individuals with conditions resulting from:
• Neurological – stroke, seizures, epilepsy; etc.
• Oncology - chemotherapy
• Behavioral - bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression, PTSD, eating disorders, alcohol and opioid withdrawal
• Medical and Surgical inpatients - tracheostomy, chest tubes, pleurx catheter, wound vac, and central lines such as chest ports

Some job functions and duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Accountable for planning, delivering, coordinating, evaluating, and modifying the patient’s care for a defined period of time
• Uses evidence-based assessment techniques to collect and document comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health
• Analyzes the assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues.
• Develops plan of care that is prescriptive of strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes in conjunction with persons-served/family and the healthcare team.
• Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patients served, considering persons-served/family cultural values, ethics, environment, and other associated risks, benefits, costs and current scientific evidence.
• Coordinates implementation of the individualized plan of care and documents interventions and any modifications of the identified plan.
• Utilizes the plan to guide those involved in the care of the patient across the continuum
• Evaluates and documents progress toward attainment of outcomes, including the patient and others involved in the care or situation.
• Responsible for effectively transitioning plan of care with attention to continuity across shift and settings of care

Minimum Requirements:
Educational Requirements:
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science (BSN) required, or at least in pursuit of

Licensure, Certification, & Registration Requirements:
• Active NJ Registered Nurse license- required
• Basic Life Saving certification (BLS) - required
• Advanced Life Saving Certificate (ACLS) - required within 6 months of hire
• Rehabilitation Certification - preferred

Related Work Experience
- Minimum of 15 months of recent nursing experience - required
