Position Description:
The Pulmonary and Medical Critical Care Service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to add to its practice of 25 Attendings with 16 Board certified intensivists and 7 Advanced Practitioners as we expand our current service line. The MCCS admitted over 1800 critical care patients last year and has one of the highest acuity levels in the nation.

We provide ICU management of Oncology, Hepatology, Pulmonology, transplant, and general medical patient populations. In addition to ICU service coverage, the Advanced Practice (AP) team of ACNP’s and PA-C’s also staffs an innovative AP managed Procedure consult service that provides bedside procedure consults to all areas of the hospital both medical and surgical. This innovative role incorporates procedural teaching as well and autonomous practice. We also lead a medical floor based Resuscitation and Critical Care Overflow service that is responsible for rapid response to medical emergencies, critical care consults and post –ICU consults.

To be successful, we need uniquely qualified leaders in Advanced Practice with the skill, experience, expertise and passion to fill these new and exciting roles in the expanded medical Critical Care Program. These ACNPs or PAs will be working with board certified intensivists, on intra-disciplinary ICU teams providing front line management of critically ill patients. The Advanced Practitioners (APs) in the Medical Intensive Care Unit will function autonomously and in collaboration with intensivists, nurses, Pharm-D’s and other health care professionals to diagnose, treat, and manage complex critical illness. These APs will also perform procedures as outlined in the privileging agreements (central lines, arterial lines, paracentesis, thoracentesis and Lumbar puncture). The AP model of care will be 24/7/365.

You would work 3 shifts per week- 13 hour shifts. Day/Night rotation - monthly rotation.

Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s prepared Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Pennsylvania state licensure and certification as an ACNP or PA-C is required.
• BLS, ACLS required
• Critical Care Nursing or Fellowship experience preferred; Advanced Practice Provider experience preferred.

Additional Information:
This position is for approximately 30% Nights/70% Days - if an applicant is interested in All Nights - that can be considered.
