Posting Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, to join the Laboratory of Computational Audition (PI: Josh McDermott). The postdoctoral associate is responsible for conducting research at the intersection of NeuroAI and audiology, with the goal of understanding and improving auditory prosthetic devices (cochlear implants and hearing aids) using models of auditory perception built with machine learning. They will build on the lab’s expertise in deep computational models of the auditory system and in particular on recent work building models of prosthetically enabled hearing, as described in this pre-print: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.07.16.665227v2

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: PhD in a field of quantitative science; strong background in machine learning and signal processing; experience with and commitment to rigorous and reproducible computational research; superior oral and written communication skills; experience with scientific publication; excellent interpersonal communication; demonstrated expertise in deep learning, preferably as applied to audio; and traditional signal processing. PREFERRED: Computational expertise: Experience with Pytorch, use of high-performance computing, experience with version control tools such as Github; Psychophysics: Some familiarity with psychophysical experimentation and/or experiments with human participants, including sensitivity to the needs of clinical populations; familiarity with systems neuroscience; or familiarity with auditory prosthetics (cochlear implants and/or hearing aids, in particular, familiarity with the underlying signal processing is a plus) and/or neural stimulation technology.
