Posting Description

VISITOR SERVICES STAFF MEMBER, MIT List Visual Arts Center, provides a welcoming and positive experience for visitors to our international contemporary art museum located on MIT's Cambridge campus. This role greets and orients visitors, provides exhibition and general information, safeguards artwork by ensuring visitors adhere to established protocols, maintains gallery security, operates technical exhibition elements, manages opening and closing procedures, maintains clean gallery and desk areas, tracks attendance, executes catalog sales, and supports special events and exhibitions. The position requires attendance at exhibition trainings, technical walkthroughs, customer service training, and staff meetings.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent; excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; experience working with the public in-person; technical proficiency with audiovisual equipment and various media; demonstrated interest in contemporary art; ability to maintain a stationary position for extended periods; ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds; ability to apply 10 pounds of force in pushing, pulling, and locking; flexibility with shift coverage and co-worker requests; strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities; familiarity with MIT campus and policies, particularly regarding accessibility and non-discrimination; adherence to established dress code. PREFERRED: Knowledge of contemporary art practices; and experience in gallery or museum environments.

This is an in-person position. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 11:30 AM–6:30 PM (18 hours/week), with flexibility on opening and closing hours based on exhibition technical needs. Position includes occasional daytime/weekday trainings and evening events.
