Posting Description
OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR, Central Utilities Plant (CUP), is a senior member with responsibility for all activities across all shifts; plans, organizes, and supervises shift operation to assure that plant reliability, safety, and environmental requirements are met; collaborates with CUP managers and cross-functionally with teams in Maintenance Operations, Campus Services, and Environmental Health and Safety.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: A minimum of five years of directly related experience in a utility or power plant or similar experience; Massachusetts 2nd Class Stationary Engineer license required or the ability to obtain Massachusetts 1st class Engineer’s within one year of the start of employment; holds or obtains within six months of hire a Massachusetts Grade 2 Waste Water license or the ability to obtain within one year of the start of employment required; driver’s license required; knowledge of various auxiliary controls related to steam, chill water, and co-generation desirable; ability to establish effective working relationships within and between work groups and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to foster a positive work environment and lead a group of engineers and other staff in a team-centered organization; excellent interpersonal skills in order to represent the department in the overall MIT Community; ability to move objects weighing 20 to 100 lbs; ability to traverse long distances or moving from site to site; ability to use arms and/or legs to push, pull and lift objects. PREFERRED: Bachelor of Science degree in engineering; supervisory experience or willingness to attend supervisory and management training; and experience with LogBook.
