Posting Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Biology, to develop experimental approaches for understanding how genetic perturbations shape microbial cellular phenotypes. The postdoctoral associate will be jointly advised by Professors Yunha Hwang and Gene-Wei Li and will work at the interface of microbial genetics, functional genomics, systems biology, and multi-omic measurement; and design and execute bacterial perturbation experiments, develop scalable molecular biology workflows, and generate high-quality transcriptomic, physiological, proteomic, and metabolomic datasets. This position offers substantial intellectual independence and opportunities to collaborate closely with machine learning scientists developing predictive models of cellular function. Machine learning experience is not required.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, systems biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biophysics, or a related field; strong experience with bacterial genetics, molecular cloning, strain engineering, or functional genomics; demonstrated ability to design, troubleshoot, and interpret complex experiments; strong record of research productivity; and ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. PREFERRED: Experience with CRISPRi, pooled genetic screens, or barcoded libraries; flow cytometry, fluorescence-activated cell sorting, or related single-cell measurement approaches; RNA sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, or other multi-omic approaches; developing new experimental technologies, assays, or measurement platforms; or generating large-scale, high-throughput biological datasets.

This is a 1-year appointment term, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance.
