Posting Description

ASSISTANT REAL ESTATE CONTROLLER, MIT Investment Management Company, is responsible for overseeing accounting and financial operations for MITIMCo’s diverse real estate portfolio, which includes over 100 properties across multiple asset types and investment structures. Reporting to the Real Estate Controller, this role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and adherence to best practices. The position serves as the primary liaison with the outsourced property manager’s accounting team, supervising day-to-day accounting activities, reviewing lease data in systems like Yardi, and flagging potential issues to asset management. It also ensures the integrity of real estate sub-ledgers and accurate data flow into internal and third-party reporting systems. Key responsibilities include leading monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reviews; overseeing budget and forecast evaluations; and supporting the annual valuation process through appraisal coordination.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: A minimum of six years of experience in Real Estate Accounting; bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance-related discipline; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); excellent critical thinking and analytical skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and feel comfortable working through an iterative process; strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant technology; exceptional organizational skills and effective time management skills with proven ability to multi‐task; demonstrated track record of effective oral and written communication through all levels of the organization; ability to resolve complex problems in a thorough and timely manner, determining the appropriate course of action with minimal supervision. PREFERRED: Experience with joint ventures or fund accounting; experience with Yardi and/or RealPage; experience in leasehold and fee simple accounting; and experience with Fair Value accounting principles and CPA.
