Posting Description

SENIOR MANAGER, FINANCIAL RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION, Media Lab, to oversee the administration of the Lab’s sponsored research funding, including pre- and post-award activities, analysis, reporting, and closeout; organize the finance team’s pre-award assignments and provide supervision and guidance in the development and submission of complicated proposals and budgets; manage the tracking and resolution of accounting and reporting issues (such as overrun and/or expiring accounts, unallowable costs, and personnel distribution) and offer tools and strategies to minimize recurring errors; monitor the Lab’s sponsored research portfolio to ensure compliance with MIT and sponsor policies and proactively investigate and troubleshoot potential issues with the Principal Investigator (PI) and/or appropriate finance team member.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in related field; minimum 5 years’ experience in research administration or finance; minimum 1 year of supervisory experience; knowledge of federal guidelines; effective communicator with ability to convey financial information to faculty and staff at all levels; demonstrated ability to promote team building while also carrying an individual portfolio of tasks and management activities; strong leadership, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills; desire to help design and create innovative solutions to complex problems and strategize for long-term planning; good judgment and the ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality; proactive, self-motivated, and flexible approach to daily tasks; advanced Excel user, who can edit and create complex workbooks. PREFERRED: Proficient with MIT’s research administration and financial systems.
