Posting Description

MUSEUM STORE ASSISTANT, Museum, assists with the daily operation of the bustling MIT Museum Store. The Store provides earned revenue to support the MIT Museum’s mission to make research and innovation accessible to all. Will assist customers in the store: answer questions, share product knowledge, make recommendations; ring up museum store purchases; retrieve, count, price, and store incoming merchandise shipments; assist with the organization and maintenance of two stockrooms; replenish store stock levels throughout the day; straighten displays; open/close store as needed including cash register/POS and all entrances and exits; and take on other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent; excellent communication skills; ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision; ability to work in an ever-changing environment; ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; regularly and repeatedly lift up to 30 Ibs.; occasionally ascend/descend a ladder; and move about a crowded store and two stockrooms; good design sense and an understanding of basic merchandising principles; and basic computer skills. PREFERRED: Experience in specialty retail, hospitality or museums and attractions; and experience with Counterpoint POS or an equivalent.
