Posting Description

FINANCIAL ASSISTANT III, Materials Science & Engineering (DMSE), will provide complex and diverse financial support for the day to day operations of faculty labs; serve as primary departmental owner of the Financial Review and Control (FRC) process and administration related to DMSE Service centers; perform financial activities for general, fund, and research accounts for faculty and their labs; serve as a resource for faculty, postdocs, and students on financial transactions; provide backup support to financial staff during absences; exercise confidentiality of classified information based on office protocols; and perform other administrative, financial, and clerical duties as necessary.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent; a minimum of five years of financial or accounting experience; excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; attention to detail and excellent follow through; strong accounting skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders with limited supervision. PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree; experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and university accounting and purchasing systems; and proficiency with MIT’s financial software, i.e., SAP and Cognos.
