Posting Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE 1, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory-Tsai Lab, to assist with creation, maintenance, and experimentation using human-induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Will work closely with several researchers to create differentiated neurovascular cell types such as neural progenitor cells, mature neurons, astrocytes, and endothelial cells from iPSCs and ESCs. Much time will be spent on the maintenance of cell lines, including media changes, subculturing/splitting, transference of cell colonies, and basic microscopy. Duties include creating specialized media formulation and maintaining an inventory of stem cell reagents and stock chemicals; preparing specialized culturing surfaces and maintaining a well-organized inventory of cell lines stored in liquid nitrogen; and routine stem cell core maintenance. Will work under the supervision of lab managers and the manager of the Picower Institute iPSC Core Facility. This position would be ideal for a highly motivated individual who is excited about working in the cutting-edge field of human stem cell models of disease. Will perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, or related field; a minimum of two years of related wet lab experience; two years related experience; excellent sterile technique; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and be a flexible individual who is able to implement and evaluate novel technical approaches as new protocols are constantly being published for the creation of neurovascular and other brain cell types from human stem cells. PREFERRED: One year cell culture experience; or experience in epifluorescent, confocal microscopy and/or flow cytometry.
