Posting Description

SENIOR PRODUCT ENGINEER, MIT Open Learning, to design, build, and optimize front‑end experiences across its learning platforms, including MIT Learn, which reaches millions of learners worldwide. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership, and drives execution in a fast‑moving, product‑focused environment. Reporting to the Director of Application Development, will play a hands‑on role in delivering intuitive, reliable learning experiences while shaping the long‑term front‑end direction of the platform; and design and implement high‑quality user interfaces using TypeScript, React, and Next.js, translating UX designs into scalable, accessible, and maintainable systems. Recent initiatives include building a Tiptap‑based authoring editor for creating rich, modular learning content and developing front‑end experiences for AskTim, a suite of AI‑powered learning tools used across residential and online contexts. Working closely with UX and product partners, will help define front‑end architecture, component patterns, and a shared design system. The role blends deep individual contribution with technical leadership, including mentoring engineers, reviewing code, leading design discussions, and championing best practices for performance, accessibility, and maintainability. This role offers the opportunity to build widely used learning tools, influence platform‑level decisions, and advance MIT’s mission of expanding access to education through technology.
