MIT provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the Institute reasonably expects to pay for a full time position at the time of posting (part time positions are pro-rated). Posting Description

FINANCE AND OPERATIONS ASSISTANT, Program in Science, Technology, & Society, will provide financial and administrative support to the Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS); support the Program’s financial, operations, and human resources activities; serve as the procurement card verifier for  STS faculty, others working with the faculty, and  Director, Administration and Finance (DAF); prepare and submit travel expense report for faculty, others working with the faculty,  and DAF; prepare request for payments and reimbursements for STS faculty, others working with the faculty and DAF; process honoraria, pay invoices and travel reimbursements for visitors paid from faculty accounts; prepare and submit purchase order requisitions for STS faculty, and others working with the faculty; monitor cost object balances; process journal vouchers; and oversee and maintain financial documentation and electronic files.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: High School diploma or equivalent; a minimum of three years of administrative, office, or related experience; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Applications, Dropbox,  and Google Workspace; ability to work with minimal guidance; strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy; ability to manage multiple priorities, ability to solve problems, and identify and carry out appropriate follow-up and handle confidential materials with discretion and tact; excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and strong commitment to customer service; ability to deal with frequent interruptions; work well independently and as part of a team; ability to research and resolve complex problems, exercise independent judgment, and anticipate needs; and ability to interact with a variety of people including faculty, students, and staff. PREFERRED: Experience with MIT’s financial systems (e.g., Buy2Pay, Request for Payment, Concur, SAP) and Cognos and WordPress.
