Posting Description

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE 2, Center for Advanced Urbanism, will work on existing projects in MIT’s Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism (LCAU) and the Civic Data Design Lab; serve as project manager for a pilot project currently underway intended to explore and demonstrate the effectiveness of innovative urban planning technologies in enhancing smart public spaces and cultural heritage; plan and conduct specific research aimed at improving design and planning of urban environments; contribute original ideas with regards to research direction and/or methodologies; lead design of ideation workshops and other research-related events with external collaborators; develop exhibitions in connection with research; produce web-based visualizations and communication strategies; produce high-quality reports for funders and other stakeholders; build publication record, through both traditional and non-traditional outlets; manage research projects and other projects to ensure quality and timeliness; devise options to improve research methods; oversee the development of data collection and instruments; perform data analytics; draft research narratives and prepare grant and other funding proposals; represent Center and research to sponsors; help prepare presentations for potential sponsors; develop connections across MIT, companies, non-governmental organizations, and governments; strategize and pursue new research opportunities within the LCAU; train/coach more junior research personnel on advanced methods when relevant; and oversee and provide guidance to TAs, RAs, and students.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Master’s degree or terminal degree in architecture, urban design, urban planning, or geography or a related field of study; a minimum of four years of direct research experience; evidence of original or collaborative scholarship; excellent research, written and verbal communication skills; project management and exhibition experience; and experience working with diversity of disciplines and broad network of collaborators.
