Posting Description

RESEARCH ENGINEER 1, Aeronautics and Astronautics, to design experiments for high-throughput mechanical testing of materials in extreme environments, focusing on plasticity, fatigue and combustion; develop standard operating procedures for the tests; test aerospace-relevant materials using the developed test methods to establish a database of material properties; develop detailed reports and documentation to support research activities and findings; prepare and publish academic papers on research findings; provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students involved in research projects; assist the PI in writing research proposals and preparing presentations for supervision meetings; deliver high-quality weekly updates on research progress and experimental outcomes; and work independently on assigned tasks while maintaining alignment with overall project goals.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field; at least two years of related experience; proven experience in preparing and publishing academic papers; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and manage research tasks efficiently; and demonstrated experience in mechanical testing and material characterization methods. PREFERRED: experience in mechanical experimental design; familiarity with advanced experimental and analysis techniques such as DIC, high speed imaging, FEA and software tools for mechanical design and analysis; and experience in writing research proposals and preparing presentations for academic and industry audiences.
