Job Description

FINANCIAL OFFICER, Aeronautics and Astronautics, to be responsible for a variety of portfolio management and other duties.  Portfolio management responsibilities will include advising and educating principal investigators (PIs), other faculty, researchers, and staff on research administration, including MIT policies and systems and federal regulations; performing pre-award administration activities, including reviewing solicitations, RFPs, proposal and budget development, organizing and submitting proposals to MIT’s Research Administration Services; tracking and interpreting MIT and government policies; organizing proposals with multiple PIs and/or in conjunction with different departmental units; advising PIs on program extensions and submitting as needed, participating in the sponsored project closeout process, and compiling information needed for audit inquiries; and performing a variety of related duties.  Other responsibilities include generating monthly accounts forecasts and financial analyses; working with faculty and non-faculty PIs to ensure funds are available for support of their activities; and performing other duties as assigned.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in a related field; at least five years of experience in accounting or finance; strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills; ability to learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management; knowledge of federal guidelines; discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues; experience in academic programs and administration; attention to detail; ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines; strong mathematical skills; and high-level proficiency with Excel and familiarity with other MS Office programs.  PREFERRED: experience with financial systems, broad understanding of Cognos Reports, Kuali Coeus experience, and MIT experience.  Job #24298-8
