Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Mechanical Engineering (MechE)-Traverso Lab (part-time, 50%), to join a multidisciplinary group of researchers and staff to develop novel transdermal and implantable systems for long-term delivery of contraceptive and biologic drugs. Primary responsibilities include supporting in vitro drug formulation, device fabrication, and in vivo characterization of systems in both small and large animal models.  Responsibilities will include planning and executing experimental protocols to formulate and characterize drug compounds; planning and executing experimental protocols to fabricate and test drug delivery devices; characterizing performance of drug formulations and drug delivery devices in small and large animal models; analyzing experimental results using statistical methodology; summarizing, documenting, and presenting research results/findings; reagent procurement and record-keeping; ensuring that safety standards/procedures are followed, preparing lab for inspections, and correcting problems; and communicating, interpreting, and providing training on lab policies.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  B.S./B.A. in a relevant scientific field (i.e., chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, pharmaceutical science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry); two years of experience working in a laboratory environment (which may include experience gained at the undergraduate level); demonstrated commitment to producing accurate and high-quality data; experience operating and maintaining technical instruments/equipment; comfort summarizing, reporting, and presenting results to researchers; strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills; willingness to learn new scientific tools and techniques; ability to work independently and as part of a team; and an awareness of basic safety issues and the ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.  Job #24266
