Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE II, Mechanical Engineering (MechE) (multiple openings), to support research on clinically-relevant solutions to gastrointestinal drug delivery systems.  Will design drug delivery devices to be tested in large animals; perform rapid prototyping; perform experimental tasks such as dissection for evaluating the interaction between prototype and tissue and setting up experiments; formulate and perform chemical/mechanical characterization of polymeric materials; execute statistical analysis of experiments; order materials and handle laboratory upkeep; summarize and document research results/findings; ensure safety standards/procedures are followed, prepare lab for inspections, and correct problems; train and coordinate work of lower-level staff, student employees, and/or temporary staff; and communicate, interpret, and provide training on lab policies.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  B.S. in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, material science, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or a related field; and at least four years of specialized lab experience. PREFERRED:  master’s degree and experience in at least five of the following areas: CAD/CAM (SolidWorks/HSMWorks, Fusion360), biomedical device design and development, material characterization (biomaterials and plastics, Instron testing machines), additive manufacturing/3D printing (FDM and SLA), subtractive manufacturing (manual and CNC machining), plastic molding (extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding), and polymer science/polymer formulation.  Job #24104
