Job Description

SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF), to support the property team with reporting, compliance, analysis, and control of accounting and financial functions related to the Institute’s land, buildings, and equipment, including state and federal filings and general ledger accounts.  Will provide exemplary customer service and support to the MIT community on complex property-related sponsored research inquiries.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in an accounting, finance, or related business area; at least three years’ experience in financial operations, including accounting, account reconciliation, and/or research administration; at least three years’ experience delivering excellent customer service; knowledge of accounting principles and relevant federal regulations for specialty areas; advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills; discretion, tact, and good judgment with highly sensitive and confidential information; collaborative work style and ability to foster interpersonal relationships within the team and the broader community; and a flexible approach to responsibilities, including willingness to learn new tasks, take on new assignments, modify approach as required by the situation, and support initiatives by pitching in on all tasks as part of a team.  Must be able to swiftly identify issues and resolve them with minimal guidance/supervision, escalating when necessary; manage multiple tasks while paying attention to detail and accuracy; and ensure the timely delivery of all responsibilities/assignments.  PREFERRED: sponsored research administration experience, including with financial audit of sponsored research awards and reviewing and recording journal entries; experience with SAP or similar enterprise accounting systems, Brio Query, and Cognos; and MIT experience.  Job #23912-7
