Job Description

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) AND STATISTICS LIBRARIAN, MIT Libraries, to support the MIT community by providing GIS and statistical software services, instruction, and consultation as part of the GIS and statistical software services team. Responsibilities will include coordinating instructional programs, maintaining GIS and statistical software tools, assisting with data selection and procurement, and fostering inclusive practices in geospatial and statistical instruction. Will also collaborate across departments, contribute to strategic development, and engage in professional activities.

This role is ideal for someone who supports open scholarship and the MIT Libraries' commitment to advancing equity and social justice in spatial analysis and data science.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  master’s degree in geography, social sciences, urban planning, ecology, engineering, computer science, remote sensing, library science, or a related information field; at least three years of relevant work experience, preferably including familiarity with academic library operations; proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS and QGIS) and an interest in leveraging software and technologies for spatial problem-solving; strong data management and analysis skills; ability to develop and deliver instructional content; meticulous attention to detail; willingness to staying up-to-date with data services trends; familiarity with geospatial data sources; excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines; and ability to perform light cleaning tasks, shift lab furniture, and manage computer equipment and associated wires and cables.  Job #23859-8
