Job Description

SWIMMING POOL ATTENDANT, Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER)-Facilities, to be responsible for safety, first-aid, and other duties in the DAPER swimming areas throughout the Institute.  Will ensure the safety of all patrons visiting DAPER aquatic facilities and respond to emergencies; scan the area of surveillance to make sure that patrons are safe and behaving according to the rules; act in emergency situations and provide rescue and first aid assistance up to your training level until medical personnel arrive and take over; inspect the aquatic facility for unsafe conditions and cleanliness to prevent accidents and report any hazards to the supervisor; enforce rules consistently and fairly; and performs other duties as required, including periodic cleaning of the work site. Employment will be primarily in the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center (W35) and/or Alumni Pool (Building 57).

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; one year of related lifeguard experience; valid American Red Cross lifeguarding with CPR/AED for professional rescuers and first aid certification; ability to pass a special physical examination and periodic lifeguard skill tests; and willingness to complete in-service training work as needed.  Job #23820

Work conditions: moving weights of up to 50 lbs.; traversing the pool area; positioning oneself to work in various positions to provide safety and cleaning services in the pool area for extended periods; frequently ascending/descending stairs and work from ladders and other above ground locations such as lifeguard stands; wearing of personal protective equipment as required by the specific assignment.

Hourly rate: $34.65

Schedule:  Academic year:  Monday through Wednesday 1:15 to 9:15 P.M., Thursday and Friday 3:15 to 11:15 P.M.; Summer:  Monday through Friday 1:15 to 9:15 P.M.

Employees are not considered essential personnel, but may be required to work other shifts on an as needed basis.

Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.
