Job Description

 RESEARCH/CLINICAL VETERINARIAN, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) (2 positions), to provide veterinary support and oversight for a variety of species and be actively involved in training the next generation of comparative medicine professionals.  DCM serves as the primary resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models within the MIT community. It is tasked with the care of a wide variety of species, including mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, swine, zebrafish, zebra finches, tree shrews, marmosets, and macaques, and includes transgenic (mouse and nonhuman primate) and germ-free facilities.  Will join twelve other veterinarians providing the very best in animal care and collaborative research support; become an integral part of an established comparative medicine training program for veterinarians and veterinary students in research, laboratory animal medicine and comparative pathology; and have an opportunity for collaborative and/or independent research.  Responsibilities include providing broad veterinary clinical and surgical support; active involvement in animal model development and refinement; training and mentoring postdoctoral fellows/veterinary technicians/research technicians/research staff; participating as a teacher/mentor in an established postdoctoral training program in laboratory animal medicine and research; and contributing to regulatory oversight. 

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or from an AVMA-listed veterinary school with ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) certification; license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state; and ability to work effectively as part of a team.  PREFERRED:  formal training in comparative medicine with diplomate status in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or at least two years’ experience practicing/training in veterinary medicine in a research setting.
