Job Description

LAB COORDINATOR, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Langer Lab, to coordinate various activities in support of the largest biomedical engineering lab at MIT and its researchers. Will--under the supervision of the lab manager--ensure compliance with established lab standards and practices. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements--human and animal protocols and biological and radiation protocols; chemical and SARA reporting to EHS (inventory maintenance); serving as coordinator/trainer for tissue culture rooms; conducting regular laboratory inspections (internal/EHS/CAC); overviewing stock and SOPs of VWR POU and Lifetech Supply Centers in conjunction with lab manager; ensuring equipment and instruments are functioning correctly and initiating repair/maintenance as necessary; meeting new researchers and verifying safety training in conjunction with lab safety officers and the lab manager; meeting with outgoing researchers to conduct safety check-outs; and performing other lab-related activities as necessary.  

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  B.S. in biomedical engineering or related field; at least four years of experience working in a large research laboratory; knowledge of human and animal protocols and reporting requirements; knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards; experience with tissue culture procedures and protocols; experience leading lab inspections; knowledge of ordering supplies, equipment, and/or services and inventory control; ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory systems and instruments; strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills; and ability to work as part of a diverse team of students, researchers, and staff. PREFERRED: MIT or other academic experience.  Job #21600
