FINANCIAL OFFICER, MIT Museum (MITM), to serve as a member of MITM’s management team, carrying collective responsibility for its policies and strategies and managing the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of its roughly $9 million combined annual budget, which includes earned revenue, endowment income, grants, and funding from MIT. Responsibilities include resolving complex problems; creating and maintaining various financial systems; evaluating and reporting on key monthly, quarterly, and annual performance metrics and advising senior management on when to adjust spending; serving as a resource to staff on financial principles, federal regulations, and MIT financial policies; preparing, reviewing, and submitting budgets for multiple MITM accounts; completing financial reporting and submitting documentation as required; working with colleagues to provide financial information for grant applications and other fund-raising efforts; modeling different funding scenarios in the mid- to long-term and advising senior management on achieving mission objectives and financial sustainability; developing short- and mid-term operational plans to improve MITM sustainability; managing one nonexempt financial assistant and training/guiding MITM staff with spend and commit authority; and performing other duties as requested.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or related field; seven years’ accounting and financial management experience and at least two years’ supervisory experience; high-level proficiency with Excel, including using formulas and its formula audit functions; discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues; initiative, flexibility, and accountability; and ability to collaborate within a team-oriented environment. PREFERRED: experience with corporate or nonprofit finance, financial reporting, grant administration, budgeting, and accounting; and experience managing complex business processes. Job #21094-11
