Will primarily be involved in performing experiments using methods such as genetics, optogenetics, calcium imaging, and behavioral analysis. The work is aimed at understanding how neural circuits generate patterned neural activity that gives rise to behavior. The research will use the model system C. elegans. Responsibilities include conducting molecular, genetic, optogenetic, fluorescence imaging, and behavioral experiments aimed at understanding how neural circuits generate complex behaviors in the nematode C. elegans; designing and performing experiments; analyzing and interpreting data to inform working hypotheses; assisting with lab management and organization, equipment maintenance, and maintaining a safe work environment; and managing lab calendars and strain/plasmid databases. Will work under the supervision of the principal investigator, postdocs, and/or students engaged in research.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a high school diploma or its equivalent; familiarity with molecular biology (plasmid cloning or western blotting, etc), fluorescence imaging, and experimental design in biology and/or neuroscience; excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze data and present it in a format suitable for publication; self-motivation; ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment and to balance the demands of an immersive research project with basic lab managerial tasks. PREFERRED: a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, biomedical engineering, systems biology, computer science, or related field; and basic familiarity with coding (MATLAB, R, or Python).
