DIRECTOR OF FINANCE, MIT Press, to serve as a strategic partner to the director and publisher; manage day-to-day accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting; and oversee the finance and accounting team. Responsibilities include directing all aspects of financial reporting and analysis and/or the budget cycle; assisting with strategic planning and daily general management; developing financial policies/strategies; leading development of financial analyses, studies, and modeling; overseeing administrative budget proposal and forecasting analysis processes; evaluating budget versus actual performance; handling real estate leases and capital equipment purchasing/leasing; preparing annual operating and capital budgets; tracking title subsidies and private gifts; overseeing the preparation of financial statements and/or audits; managing financial and operational matters for London office; and preparing quarterly and annual reports.

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; ten years’ financial management experience; strong communication, customer service, analytical, organizational, and project management skills; knowledge of and experience with books/journals publishing, financial planning and analysis, and accounting; strong business acumen; track record of working with technology leadership to manage financial management and reporting systems; experience streamlining, refining, and automating financial processes, including developing user-friendly tools and deploying suitable technology; advanced-level MS Office skills, especially Excel (pivot tables, macros, vlookups); comfort with database and query tools (Cognos, FileMaker, MyHouse, MetaComet RT); and knowledge of and ability to run and supervise accounting system software. Seek someone with a collaborative and flexible management style who is persuasive and diplomatic in effecting change, strives for continuous improvement, and is willing to “roll-up sleeves” when necessary.
