COMPUTER SUPPORT ASSISTANT, MIT Press, to provide routine computer and software applications support (e.g., addressing network, operating system, and software application problems; software installations; data restoration; installations or upgrades to operating systems, etc.) to MIT Press staff working on all platforms. Responsibilities include acting as first responder to all help desk tickets via ServiceNow, following up on outstanding requests and ensuring timely resolution; installing and updating basic hardware/software and network systems; creating accounts and configuring software/hardware as part of on-boarding process; providing first-tier support for audiovisual equipment in conference/meeting rooms; administering printers, copiers, faxes, and scanners; training staff on basic software and equipment; creating and/or updating documentation/guidelines for various systems and department procedures; communicating technical concepts in common terms to ensure understanding by all audiences; performing standard testing of network facilities and desktop equipment; administering department voice accounts and updating department telephone trees; maintaining all department MIT Mailman and Moira lists; installing and configuring backup software for all desktop machines and monitoring backup systems for all department computers; moving objects weighing 10 to 20 lbs.; and performing other duties as requested. The work may require moving from site to site (office and bookstore).
REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ computer user support experience and the ability to communicate technical information and issues effectively to others and to work both independently and as part of a team. PREFERRED: working knowledge of common software applications and processes, and experience supporting a mixed-platform environment (Mac and PC). Job #20026-5

This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of extension.
