COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER/GRANT WRITER, MIT Quest for Intelligence, to develop and lead a communication and outreach plan, help shape the public image and voice of MIT Quest, and provide writing assistance and support for grant proposals to advance the Quest’s research efforts. MIT’s Quest for Intelligence imagines a world in which our understanding of natural intelligence is advanced by tightly coupled scientific inquiry and rigorous engineering to address real-world problems that are beyond current machine capabilities. Specific responsibilities will include providing direction, coordination, and support for internal and external communications and public relations efforts by the Quest for various audiences, including the general public, donor bases, and the scientific community; overseeing the communications presence and message across print and digital news channels; providing writing and editorial support for philanthropic and corporate outreach; and assisting the MIT Quest directors with researching and tracking federal and foundation grant opportunities and providing scientific writing, editorial support, and coordination for grant submissions.

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred); at least five years of experience in grant writing, communications, journalism, and/or public relations, including familiarity with funding opportunities and application processes; broad interest in neuroscience and/or artificial intelligence and ability to effectively communicate a wide range of projects to both technical and lay audiences; working knowledge of foundation and government sources of funding, and documented success helping to secure grants.
