PUBLICITY ASSOCIATE, MIT Press, to assume a vital role on the publicity team which supports the publicity manager and department initiatives. Responsibilities include acting as a key general media contact for the department; addressing phone calls and emails from media, authors, and booksellers; reviewing copy request management; coordinating Publicity Intern Program and projects; coordinating overall social media calendar and planning tools; contributing creative content to blog and social media platforms; coordinating and promoting the podcast program schedule; attending and contributing to weekly team meetings and other planning meetings; maintaining book awards calendar and submissions; planning and scheduling promotional advance reader’s copies and galley printings; managing and distributing publicity updates, media clips, press and event contacts, and title folders/files; drafting press material, including (e.g., press releases, pitch and galley letters, etc.); liaising with bookstores to organize author events; representing the Press at book events; managing department subscriptions/memberships; and providing general administrative support, including mailings, proofreading, etc.
REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ administrative experience; discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues; an interest in book publicity and publishing; excellent organizational, time management, prioritization, and written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment; meticulous attention to detail; ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, FileMaker Pro, CisionPoint, and Adobe Pro Suite; and experience with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Medium, etc. PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree in a related field, and knowledge of academic publishing.
