SENIOR EDITOR, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, MIT Technology Review (MIT TR), to be responsible for MIT TR’s coverage of artificial intelligence. Will provide comprehensive coverage and make MIT TR a must-read on the topic by combining enough timely stories about major news events with enough original scoops of both information and ideas; ensure that not only your own stories, but everything TR produces on the topic is original, insightful, and compelling; and explore and develop new journalistic forms that could give the work a greater impact; and propose new initiatives that could increase TR’s authority and influence on that topic. Responsibilities include producing a steady flow of stories; producing at least six in-depth features per year in print or online; playing a major role in the conception, planning, and assigning of themed print issues as appropriate; assigning and editing freelance stories; and serving as a representative of MIT TR.

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in journalism or relevant field; at least five years’ journalism experience, especially technology/science journalism and in the assigned beat; track record of producing well-written, incisive stories about technology; ability to distill information from a range of sources; ability to work on tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment; ability to identifying important and relevant stories and turn those ideas into compelling, clear, insightful, and creative journalism; a desire to become proficient with new journalistic tools and storytelling forms; and proficiency with numbers. PREFERRED: experience with public speaking and conference moderation, online publishing platforms, and audio and video journalism; strong social media presence; and facility with data analysis and presentation.
