SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, Facilities-Engineering Group (FEG), to be responsible for maintaining familiarity with building and campus electrical and fire alarm systems, developing long-term plans and integrating that planning into the scope of major capital and smaller renovation projects, and continually moving in the direction of improving the state of campus electrical and fire alarm systems. Will participate in project team meetings and guide vendors and consultants with electrical and fire alarm system development; provide technical guidance to all groups within the Department of Facilities and the academic side of the Institute; participate in and provide electrical expertise and guidance to the MIT Lab Equipment Electrical Safety Program; and build department structure to ensure that the Institute is provided with the necessary utility support in a professional, cost effective manner and in conjunction with MIT’s sustainability goals and objectives. Will also perform electrical engineering design work on internal projects selected by the director.
REQUIRED: a B.S. in electrical engineering; at least ten years’ experience; experience with low and medium voltage system design, construction, maintenance, switching, protective relaying, and controls; demonstrated proficiency with fire alarm systems; at least five years of design experience within the past seven years of the candidate’s professional experience; experience with the design of lighting and lighting control systems and with low voltage distribution, motors, and controls; familiarity with federal and state codes, specifically the NEC and the Mass Electrical Code; ability to collaborate and function in a team-based environment; and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
