Working at MIT offers opportunities, an environment, a culture – and benefits – that just aren’t found together anywhere else. If you’re curious, motivated, want to be part of a unique community, and help shape the future – then take a look at this opportunity.

SENIOR WRITER, MIT Technology Review (TR), to cover a chosen beat through a mix of reporting that ranges from timely stories reacting to or interpreting the news to scoops, longer features, and investigations.  Will work to make TR a must-read in your subject area; stay abreast of stories everyone is talking about and publish stories nobody else has; and speak and moderate at TR conferences around the globe and represent it at other events.  May work in formats other than print and web stories, i.e., newsletters, podcasts, etc.

MIT Technology Review is a world-renowned name in technology news, covering tech at the cutting edge.  The position offers the access and authority that come from TR’s relationship to MIT and a mandate to seek out the stories that really matter, not the ones that get the most clicks.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least six years’ experience on a beat with corresponding knowledge and contacts; and exceptional skill writing about complex subjects in a clear, engaging, jargon-free way, making them accessible and meaningful to a wide audience of tech-savvy readers.  Seek writers who are curious about new technologies, the people creating them, and the impacts they have on society; are willing to experiment with varied digital storytelling formats and different ways of connecting to audiences; and see themselves as community builders and user-experience designers.  Applications from those who write about the subject areas in which TR currently has gaps--cybersecurity, tech policy and ethics, “cyborg” beat, and space technology--are particularly welcome.  Applications from non-journalists who are writers and experts in their field will also be considered.  Job #16725-Q
