POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Aeronautics and Astronautics-Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment (LAE), to perform research aimed at improving our understanding of life cycle emissions of petroleum-derived fuels and to identify opportunities to mitigate petroleum fuels life cycle emissions.  Will explore the technical, environmental, and economic viability of coprocessing biogenic lipids with petroleum feedstocks; develop detailed chemical process models of hydrocracking and fluid catalytic cracking process units in a petroleum refinery in order to characterize the operational impacts of processing a fraction of renewable feedstock together with conventional petroleum feedstocks; and coordinate the day-to-day activities LAE.  The model outputs will be used to carry out environmental and economic evaluation of the technologies of interest by using life cycle analysis and techno-economic assessment.  Will collaborate with the funding sponsor and LAE’s leadership team and assist in supervising LAE graduate students. 

 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or related field, extensive experience in chemical process modeling using Aspen or similar software, significant experience in applying the methods of LCA and TEA to evaluate energy technologies, a record of peer-reviewed publication and a desire to publish the findings of this research project, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Job #16191
