ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER, INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROGRAM, Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Office, to provide guidance in support of Institute academic and business objectives with due consideration of federal and state occupational and environmental regulations and good practices.  Will function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary EHS Office, providing technical support to all EHS program areas. As skills develop, may work in various EHS program areas other than main area of expertise.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s desirable) in EHS-related discipline, engineering, physical science, biological/chemical science; expertise in industrial hygiene and general knowledge of all aspects of EHS; working knowledge of regulations specific to federal, state, local, and consensus standards; expertise in at least some and a general knowledge of most of the following--NRC, OSHA, EPA, DOT, Massachusetts DPH and DEP, Massachusetts fire prevention regulations, Massachusetts building code, NFPA codes, OSHA regulations, NIH and CDC guidelines, federal select agent and toxin regulations, and Cambridge Municipal Code; at least three years’ relevant experience in EHS programs and recognition, evaluation, and control of hazardous materials and conditions and physical agents; evidence of leadership; ability to develop and implement well integrated EHS programs within the workplace; effective written and oral communication skills; and basic computer and database skills.  Required competencies include ability to influence, collaborate, manage multiple projects, prioritize heavy workload and client needs, and follow through; service and team orientation; active listening skills; a bias for action; ability to communicate for results, think conceptually, and build teams; tactical and strategic thinking and problem-solving ability; organizational and cultural awareness; diplomacy and good judgment; ability to appreciate “big picture” and attend to details; and organizational skills.  Job #15957-P
